Why do we still love Mr Darcy?

Written by Ayça

200 years old and still got it

Next January Pride And Prejudice is two centuries old.

It’s just not possible to dislike Jane Austen

I was 13 when I fell in love with Mr Darcy. Well, of course I have the BBC box set. And I’ve watched it at least 50 times. Those six episodes of absolute genius have got me through illnesses, heartache, snow days and multiple hangovers. And the Keira Knightley film version? Of course, I watched the movie. The book? Absolutely, yes. And the rest of Austen’s offerings? Read and re-read so many times, I carry all her novels around on my iPad.

But, my mild Austen obsession aside, let’s for one moment focus on the greatest victory in her back catalogue: Mr Darcy. A man so proud, so sure of his status, wealth, and position in society. That he felt he couldn’t be seen in company with the poorer Elizabeth Bennet. He takes great pains to keep her vulgar family from his friends. When he can’t deny his feelings any longer, asks her to marry him. Elizabeth rejects him angrily. But he protects her family’s reputation at great cost to himself without the hope of her ever knowing, or reaping any reward. I think this is love.
Two centuries of, Fitzwilliam Darcy is still the man for countless women “definitely would”. Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Bennett in the 2005 film version of Pride And Prejudice said, “I think every girl is looking for her Mr Darcy.”
Mr. Darcy always love Elizabeth. This makes him a new sort of hero. When Austen penned Darcy in 1812 she perpetuated the myth that a woman can change a man. Elizabeth makes him a better man. It’s a model for our love stories. So that’s it. A man who is generous and kind-hearted; who can protect, provide and listen, and who is prepared to change. That’s what Darcy stands for.

Fantastic Movies Are Everywhere!

I. CANNOT. WAIT.

Written by Ayça
My favourite fairytales to make the silver screen
I’ve picked our top ten all time favourite fairtytale stories to be made into big screen films, listed below. I saw a lot of similar lists but my list is better than the others.  :)

1.Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
Why we love it:We think their first instinct was, there are such iconic images in the Wizard of Oz movie, it would be wrong for them to re-create the Yellow Brick Road or the Emerald City in a different way. They had to go 180 degrees in the other direction. They're just going to have to make their own Oz. James Franco doesn’t act, he is the Wizard of Oz. We loved the movie!!!

2.Stardust
Why we love it: Based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, Stardust is an epic tale of young man in search of a falling star for the woman he’s in love with. Romantic, adventure and with plenty of unicorns (as well as a steller cast including Clare Danes, Robert De Niro, and Ian McKellen), Stardust will transport you to a different world.

3.Alice in Wonderland
Why we love it: Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There books, Tim Burton’s 2010 film is one of the most visually stunning works we’ve ever seen. With Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and the voice of Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, this film is a psychedelic, star-packed 3D thrill ride.
4.The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Why we love it: One of our favourite, The Wizard of Oz holds a sentimental place in many hearts. A fantastical world of munchins, yellow brick roads and flying monkeys - Dorothy and her friends are some of the best characters to ever grace the silver screen. We travelled back in time.
5.Red Riding Hood
Why we love it: Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood is the visual feast you’d expect. With a torrid love triangle, a mysterious werewolf terrorizing a medieval village and Amanda Seyfried as the lead, Red Riding Hood is one film we were excited.

            6.Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
Why we love it: We loved tale of mystical side. There are funny scenes in the film.If the very title has you rolling your eyes, don’t even bother. If, however, it makes you think you’d like to see the further adventures of the fairy tale characters, by all means take a chance

7.The Chronicles of Narnia
Why we love it: Based on CS Lewis’ seven book series, The Chronicles of Narnia films are an enthralling watch. The fantasy world of Narnia looks exactly we imagined it from reading the books when we were younger with the help of a CGI-generated Aslan the lion (voiced by Liam Neeson), and the brilliantly played Pevensie children.
8.Jack the Giant Slayer
Why we love it: It’s a very traditional fairytale, probably the most traditional thing We’ve ever read. The cast gives their all, especially Nicholas Hoult. Here he brings to Jack the same charm. We feel that he he has the capability and likability to carry a movie as the lead role. The giants were pretty interesting too. In a way, they reminded us of the trolls in last year’s “The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey,” as they are excessively gross, uncivilized and high-tempered. We like it.
9.Ever After: A Cinderella Story
Why we love it: We’ve long been fans of Drew Barrymore, and she’s fantastic as ever in Ever After as Danielle, the daughter of a Baron who has been forced to work as a maid in her father’s household after he passes away. From evil step sisters to a surprising friendship with Leonardo da Vinci, this is one of our favourite versions of Cinderella.
10.Enchanted
Why we love it: We love the tounge-in-cheek nature of Disney’s Enchanted. Starring Amy Adams as Princess Giselle who finds herself trying to make story-book love survive in modern day New York, this film is a classic Disney fairytale with a modern day twist.

Most Charismatic Man In The World! He is Johnny Depp!!!

Written by Özlem
Johnny Depp is an American actor who has played a large number of high profile roles in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands.

Johnny Depp’s Childhood
Johnny Depp was born to Betty Sue Palmer and John Christopher Depp in Owensboro, Kentucky. He has one brother and two sisters, one of whom (Christie) now works as his personal manager. Depp’s family moved often throughout his childhood, though they eventually settled in Florida.
Johnny Depp started to learn the guitar when he was 12 years old and played in a number of garage bands. He dropped out of school to play in a band named The Kids, who moved to Los Angeles and changed their name to Six Gun Method. Johnny Depp also worked with the band Rock City Angels and co-wrote ‘Mary’, which appeared on their album Young Man’s Blues, released on Geffen Records.
Johnny Depp’s Acting Career
In the early 1980s, Depp’s wife at the time, Lori Anne Allison, introduced him to Nicolas Cage, who encouraged him to pursue an acting career.
In 1987, Johnny Depp landed his first lead TV role in 21 Jump Street. He reportedly took the role because it meant that he would get to work with Frederic Forrest. Depp’s friend Sal Jenco was also cast in the series.
Johnny Depp first appeared in a feature film in 1984, when he appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street, playing one of Freddy Kruger’s victims. In ‘86, he appeared in Oliver Stone’s Platoon, which also starred Charlie Sheen and Willem Dafoe.
In 1990, Depp took the lead role in Edward Scissorhands. The film was directed by Tim Burton, with whom Depp would have a long-standing working relationship. The highly successful film also stars Winona Ryder and features music by Danny Elfman.
In 1994, Burton cast him to play the title role in Ed Wood.
Johnny Depp is a huge fan and a personal friend of the writer Hunter S Thompson. In 1998, he played the role of Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, adapted from the writer’s autobiographical novel of the same name. When Thompson died, Johnny Depp paid for a large proportion of the funeral proceedings, in which Thompson’s ashes were fired from a cannon in Aspen, Colorado.
In 1999, Depp starred opposite Christina Ricci in another Burton movie, Sleepy Hollow.

In 2003, Johnny Depp starred in the first of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, The Curse of the Black Pearl. He plays the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, whom he loosely based on Keith Richards (who makes a cameo appearance in the last film of the trilogy). The films also star Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley. He was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role, which became hugely popular among the cinema-going public. The second film, Dead Man’s Chest was released in 2006 and the third installment, At World’s End was released in 2007.
Depp was nominated for another Best Actor Oscar in 2004 for his portrayal of the author JM Barrie in Finding Neverland, which also starred Kate Winslet, Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman.
His next major project was playing Willie Wonka in the 2005 adaptation of the Roald Dahl children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Depp returned to working with Tim Burton in 2008, with the release of the musical version of Sweeney Todd: The Demon barber of Fleet Street. The music was scored by Steven Sondheim and the film also starred Helena Bonham-Carter. Depp won the Golden Globe Best Actor award (Musical or Comedy) for his performance in the film.
In 2007, Johnny Depp secured a deal with Warner Brothers to make a film version of Dark Shadows, the gothic soap opera that was shown on the ABC network from 1966-71.
Along with Colin Farrell and Jude Law, Johnny Depp was chosen to play a transformation of Heath Ledger’s character in the Terry Gilliam-directed The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Ledger’s untimely death half-way through the film led to the re-casting of the character and all three of the actors chosen to take on the role have donated their salaries from the film to Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams’ daughter Matilda.
Johnny Depp’s Personal Life
Johnny Depp was married to Lori Anne Allison for a couple of years in the 1980s. After they divorced, Depp was briefly engaged to Sherilyn Fenn, though they never married. He has also dated Winona Ryder and Kate Moss.
Johnny Depp met his long-term partner, Vanessa Paradis whilst working on the film The Ninth Gate. They have two children together, Lily Rose Melody Depp (b.1999) and John Jack Christopher Depp III (b.2002). But unfortunately Depp and Pradis broke up last mounths.

Romantic Lines From Literature

Written By Ayça

The Greatest Expressions of Love Ever Written
Autumn has arrived. The air smells like a love song.We chose the classic literature of several parts. Let’s start to read.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
“He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking.”

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
“To love or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing further. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life.”

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
"I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough."

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen
"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

North And South by Elizabeth Gaskell
"All this gladness in life, all honest pride in doing my work in the world, all this keen sense of being, I owe to her!" And it doubles the gladness, it makes the pride glow, it sharpens the sense of existence till I hardly know if it is pain or pleasure, to think that I said he, stepping forwards with stern determination - "to one whom I love, as I do not believe man ever loved woman before."

The Portrait Of A Lady by Henry James
It has made me better loving you … it has made me wiser, and easier, and brighter. I used to want a great many things before, and to be angry that I did not have them.Theoretically, I was satisfied. I flattered myself that I had limited my wants. But I was subject to irritation; I used to have morbid sterile hateful fits of hunger, of desire. Now I really am satisfied, because I can’t think of anything better.”

Hamlet by William Shakespeare
"Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love."

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
"Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night."

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own: in pain and sickness it would still be dear.”

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
"It is not time or opportunity that is to determine intimacy; - it is disposition alone. Seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other, and seven days are more than enough for others."

Autumn has a gloom. Here are books full of gloom!

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to burn books, which are forbidden, being the source of all discord and unhappiness. Even so, Montag is unhappy; there is discord in his marriage. Are books hidden in his house? Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Under the streets of London there’s a place most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet. This is the city of the people who have fallen between the cracks.
Richard Mayhew, a young businessman, is going to find out more than enough about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his workday existence and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and utterly bizarre. And a strange destiny awaits him down here, beneath his native city: Neverwhere.

Alice in Deadland by Mainak Dhar
Fifteen year-old Alice has spent her entire life in the Deadland, her education consisting of how best to use guns and knives in the ongoing war for survival against the Biters. One day, Alice spots a Biter disappearing into a hole in the ground and follows it, in search of fabled underground Biter bases. What Alice discovers there propels her into an action-packed adventure that changes her life and that of all humans in the Deadland forever. An adventure where she learns the terrible conspiracy behind the ruin of humanity, the truth behind the origin of the Biters, and the prophecy the mysterious Biter Queen believes Alice is destined to fulfill.

Inferno by Dan Brown
In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces… Dante’s Inferno.
I really enjoyed this book. I think it’s a bit different than the other previous three books. The other three books have similarities in having a story plot that creating a really blur line between history and fiction. But in this fourth book, the history is like the inspiration of the fiction story.
